- You can fly to Marsh Harbor, then taxi 25 miles to Treasure Cay ($60 for 2 one-way). American Airlines is a major carrier. See Abaco Map
- Flying your own plane:
Leaving Florida's east coast, first landfalls occur at Grand Bahama Island (60 NM) or Bimini (55 NM). Treasure Cay is 163 NM from Palm Beach...187 NM from Vero Beach. Navigate to the Treasure Cay VOR. Overlapping VOR/DME or NDB signals provide fairly good navigation aids. IFR flight plans are highly recommended.
To enter the Bahamas, you MUST have an International Flight Plan on file to an official Port Of Entry. Clearing Customs in Treasure Cay is easy (although rarely quick). You must have proof of citizenship -- a passport or a certified copy of your birth certificate. Driver's licenses or voter registration cards are not accepted.
VFR night flying in the Bahamas is PROHIBITED.
Treasure Cay has a single 5000 foot southeast/northwest runway and NO TAXIWAYS. The surface is "relatively" smooth with occasional bumps and potholes. Treasure Cay is a busy uncontrolled airfield. Begin monitoring Unicom on 122.8 at least 20 miles out. Beware of commercial air carriers who like to make straight-in approaches without radio calls.
Fuel is available at Marsh Harbour Airport, 15KM from Treasure Cay. Always check your fuel for water before you depart.
Everyone is required to pay a "departure tax" when leaving the Bahamas. U.S. Customs will make you buy a Bahamas "sticker," good for a year.
We highly recommend "Pilot's Bahamas Aviation Guide" by Brian Strong, available through all aviation mail order catalogs.
